Monday, May 10th, is the deadline to order field day T-shirts for this year’s event. A few weeks ago, children brought home a dark pink form to order a shirt for field day. Cost is $5.
Within each class, children are assigned to the red or the white team. The team/color should be indicated on the order form. Please don’t feel obligated to buy a shirt; kids can wear any white or red (color for whichever team they are on) t-shirt that day to school.
If the form is missing and you wish to order a shirt, please send the following information:
- Child’s name
- Homeroom
- Indicate red or white shirt
- Size: Youth M (10-12), Youth L (14-16), Adult S, Adult M, Adult L, Adult XL
- AND $5 in an envelope marked Field Day Shirt. Payment may be made in cash or check payable to Chatham Park HASA. Orders must be in to school by Monday, May 10.

Chatham Park’s Beautification Committee is hosting a raffle for a $25 gift certificate to Rita’s Water Ice and another $25 certificate for AMC Movie Theaters to pay for additional flowers and shrubs for the gardens at the school entrances.
Raffle tickets are 50¢ cents each or 3 for $1 and can be purchased until Friday, May 7th. Raffle ticket money should be in an envelope marked “Garden Raffle” with the child’s name and turned into homeroom teachers.
The Dorice Scott Memorial Garden, to the left side of the front steps, honors Mrs. Scott, who taught first grade at Chatham Park for more than 20 years. The Beautification Committee hopes to add additional flowers and shrubs there and to the garden planted near the kindergarten door.

On Saturday, May 22, 2010, Chatham Park School will be hosting the 12th annual Maniac Magee Run for the Homeless at 9 a.m. All proceeds are donated to the Norristown Salvation Army. More than $55,000 has been raised in the last 11 years. Let’s make this year even bigger!
You can help by …
- Taking part in the 2-mile race or 1-mile walk through the Chatham Park neighborhood. It’s a great first race for new runners and for families looking to run or walk together. Race Fee is $15 per individual or $45 per family through May 16. From May 17 to 21, the fee is $18/individual or $50/family.
- Becoming a sponsor. We know many of you and your families and friends own businesses and provide services to Chatham families. You can advertise for as little as $100. Get a sponsorship form and details from the Downloads section.
- Reading the book Maniac Magee with your children as part of the Maniac Magee Reading Race to the Finish at Chatham Park.
Maniac Magee is a great book about prejudice and love and home and baseball and fear and understanding. Chatham Park Library has 100 copies available to check out. Written by Jerry Spinelli, who grew up in Norristown and later raised his 6 children in the Chatham Park community, the book tells the tale of Jeffrey Lionel Magee. At the age of 11, he goes on the run in search of a place to belong.
Children are encouraged to mark their reading journey with each section of the book and at the end donate items needed by families who stay at the Norristown Salvation Army. Find all the details, items needed by the shelter, and grade-level forms at the Chatham Park Library website.

This is the final week for collecting items for The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic. Please help the 4th Grade Service Club in their effort to assist those who care for injured wildlife in southeastern Pennsylvania.
This week, the club is collecting:
- canned dog food (any flavor)
- puppy chow
- regular dry PURINA cat chow
- unsweetened applesauce
- baby rice cereal
- gallon-size food storage bags
- rolled gauze or gauze pads
A huge collection box is outside the office and the club’s goal is to fill it a couple of times. So please help us to help all the volunteers who work at the Clinic to care for our wildlife.
The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic is in operation to care for injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife native to southeastern Pennsylvania and release them back into their natural habitat.

We’re moving into the 21st Century. No more purple volunteer forms! It’s all online, using PTO Manager.
Even if you can’t volunteer for any events, please sign up for PTO Manager using this link:

Look for the “New to PTO Manager?” link in the right-hand column and click the link.

Sign up today!
We will be making the Bulldog Browser using PTO Manager. If you do not have an entry (which is kept private) in the PTO Manager site, you and your student will not be included in the 2010-2011 Bulldog Browser. If your student is part of a shared custody agreement, each parent should have their own entry in PTO Manager.
If you have a middle school student and are already signed in to PTO Manager, you must make a new ID for your grade school student. PTO Manager IDs are given out by student name, not family name, not email address. PTO Manager’s suggestion is that families use the student name as the password for an easy way to separate accounts.
We are in the process of adding the year’s events to http://chathamparkfamilies.ptomanager.com/. If you don’t see your event, don’t worry! We’re adding the upcoming events now and will add the rest of the year later. Right now, it’s important for all families to sign up and get their addresses and emails into the system so we can start working on a great Bulldog Browser and eventful 2010-2011 year for the kids.
Thanks! Any questions? Email our Community Manager, Christine Cavalier-Purpura at cm@chathamparkfamilies.org

A Few of the Chatham Park Runners Celebrate Victory
Congratulations to the Chatham Park running team for winning the trophy in the 1-mile Elementary School Challenge race. The event was part of the Haverford Education Foundation’s 3rd Annual Twilight Run held on Saturday, April 24. Our kids had the best combined time among the 5 elementary schools.
Thanks kids, parents and teachers who contributed energy, time and money to help make the Twilight Run a record-breaking event. Funds raised by the Haverford Education Foundation are used for innovative projects throughout our school district.
