May 22                       Cultural Assembly

MANIAC MAGEE
We are proud to announce our Chatham community raised over $8400 for the local homeless shelter in the 19th annual Maniac Magee!  Thank you to ALL the volunteers that made this event possible.  From behind the scenes logistics over several months – to course marshalls managing barricades to keep all walkers/runners safe – to Race Day assistance.  Every little bit was very helpful.
Congratulations to Ms. Aman’s AM Kindergarten class for winning the Maniac Magee Water Ice Party.  They had the most registered runners and even had 4 top race finishers for their grade.
CULTURAL ASSEMBLY
The Final Cultural Assembly of the year is the afternoon of Monday 5/22/2017. The Curtis Blues interactive assembly Creative Up-Cycling! will challenge students to think abut re-purposed materials to make musical instruments and using STEM engineering designing process as a guide.  This assembly may inspire the kids to “up-cycle” their own found objects at home using musical traditions that has spanned the various continents for centuries.
RUNNING CLUB
A hearty thanks to ALL the Parent Volunteer Coaches for their dedication and support in making the Running Club program successful.  It was so awesome to see so many smiling faces after school prepping for Maniac Magee and then on Race Day.  This program is purely successful thanks to EACH of the 22 parents involved.  The team and school spirit on Race Day was outstanding!!!
To assist with continuing this Running Club program there is a need of 1 or 2 more Coordinators for next year.  Please contact Liz Radosti-Chapman (elizabeth.r.chapman@gmail.com) for details.  We hope to have coaches for all groups next year, so keep your eye on the Chat in January 2018 when we recruit coaches again to prepare for Maniac Magee’s 20th anniversary!
Service Club Final Meetings
4th Grade’s Final Meeting will be June 5, 5th Grade’s Final Meeting will be May 23.
5th Grade Service Club is in need of gently worn jeans for our final project of the year. If you have any you are able to donate, please bring them into school by Tuesday, May 23. We will be using them to make shoes for children in Africa.
Thanks!
Field Day
Anyone interested in helping out at the water station on Field Day, please email Marykristin12@gmail.com.  We will need a group of parents keep water filled, help distribute apples and run out for ice as needed. Thank you!
Field Day
We need about 7-10 volunteers to help sort field day tshirts on Monday, May 22 after school.  Email Marykristin Haskell at marykristin12@gmail.com if you are able to help. Thank you!

Please Read–Chatham Park Families

Dear Chatham Families,

The following is a message from Laura Piontkowski, she posted earlier in the Havertown Community Group.   Hopefully some good luck and the help of the Chatham Community will come her way today and help her find her husband’s ring.

I know this is a long shot but I may have lost my husband’s wedding band during the Maniac Magee race at Chatham Park this morning. If anyone finds one on the race course or around the school, please please please let me know.

I’ve torn my house apart with no luck either. I noticed it missing after I ran with my daughter. I was on the race course, the grass to the right of the main sidewalk, the Allston sidewalk and in between my house and Chatham. It could have come off before the race but I didn’t notice until after we ran.

Mayfair and Maniac Magee are this Saturday!!!

Maniac Magee is this Saturday
WE NEED YOUR HELP!! We are still in need of a few volunteers for the Maniac Magee Run.  We especially need the course marshals. Course marshals just stand by the barricade, that will be already in place, to stop the traffic for entering the race route.  You can just go to the exact location 10 minutes prior and stay until the last runner/walker finishes. The exact locations and times are on the sign up genius below.  All the locations are on the race route so it will be a great place to cheer on your runner.   Course marshals are really important to help keep our runners safe during the race.  Thank you.

PSA ABOUT MAY PRIMARY ELECTIONS

The Primary elections in Pennsylvania are Tuesday, May 16th.  One important local election this year is for members of the Haverford Township School Board.  For the first time in many years, there are more candidates than there are open seats, so your vote for school board matters this year more than ever.  There are three incumbents and three new candidates running for four seats.  Our school board makes critical decisions that impact our children’s education, so please vote and make your voice heard.  A public forum to meet all of the candidates is being held on Sunday, April 30th from 2-3:30pm in the community room at the Haverford Township Library.

Golden Apple Final Info

If your child earned their gold apple, invitations will be going home this week to the Golden Apple Celebration.  If your child does not bring home an invitation and you think they should have, please contact Peggy at peggyhermann@hotmail.com or Megan at megansalvesen@hotmail.com by Monday 5/8.  The celebration event is very informal and will be held before school on May 18th for grades K-2 and May 19th for grades 3-5. Students simply stop by the cafeteria to pick up their gold apple, a real apple, a bookmark and the library book with their nameplate in it.  The library book will already be checked out to them for 2 weeks.  Parents can attend but do not have to.  Congratulations to all of our readers this year!
